EN 12326 - Chemical components

The EN requires the determination of the amount of non-carbonate carbon. The amount of carbon has to be determined three times within a defined procedure and the average value has to be calculated.
Carbon is an important opaque substance which can occur as organic carbon, bitumen, kerogen or anthracite as well as elementary carbon or amorphous carbon or graphite. Carbon is generally homogeneously distributed within the slate.

The amount of non-carbonate carbon of a slate has to be ≤ 2 %.
