The geology of slates

This pages are suppose to give an insight in the geology of slate. Some explanation should be regarded as geological standard knowledge whereas other explanations are results of investigations at the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (Germany, Saxony).

During my investigation I visited a lot of slate quarries and carried out research of the geological setting and history of the singles deposits. However, a complete investigation of all (roofing-) slate deposits cannot be realised by me or is at least part of future and more collaborative works.

The description of the slate deposits is divided in accordance to the geographical position.

The explanation of the determination of the mineralogy and the fabric, the strength and physical properties are deeply explained in my slate book.
